Organisation

Leadership & Organisation

Hellenic Classification Society combines executive oversight, technical management, quality control, survey coordination and regional capability within a functional structure designed to support consistent and traceable maritime technical decisions.

Corporate Governance

Defined responsibilities for technical decisions.

HCS coordinates executive, technical, quality and administrative responsibilities through Head Office. Individual appointments and approval powers remain governed by the relevant controlled records.

Corporate Governance

Organisational oversight, independence and accountability.

Governance provides oversight of strategy, resources and the separation of technical decisions from commercial influence. Regional appointments remain subject to competence, scope and applicable authority.

Executive Management

Executive leadership and strategic coordination.

The executive function coordinates organisational direction, resources and corporate representation. Existing leadership appointments are presented below; publication here does not expand any signatory or technical approval power.

Technical Management

Technical decisions, survey coordination and approval control.

The technical function coordinates classification, statutory work within confirmed delegation, survey instructions, evidence review and technical approval. Attendance is separated from the final certification decision.

Administration & Records

Controlled files, certification records and operational support.

Administrative and records functions support survey coordination, certificate registers, controlled technical files and client communication. Regional operations follow Head Office instructions for each appointment.

Quality & Compliance

Quality oversight within the organisation.

The quality function oversees documented procedures, competence control and compliance follow-up. ISO certification, QMS processes and professional assurance evidence are maintained on the Quality page.

Corporate Responsibilities

The principles behind HCS decision-making.

Our operational culture is designed around technical integrity, independence, safety, traceability and direct communication.

Technical Integrity

Decisions based on evidence, applicable rules and documented review.

Survey findings, measurements and supporting documents form the basis of technical review. Classification and certification decisions follow the applicable requirements and the evidence recorded for each assignment.

Independence

Technical judgment separated from commercial pressure and unsupported assumptions.

Technical conclusions must reflect the vessel’s condition and the applicable requirements. Commercial schedules and client requests do not replace the evidence required for an approval or certificate.

Safety & Compliance

A consistent focus on vessel safety and applicable maritime requirements.

Each assignment starts with the vessel particulars, service scope and applicable requirements. Statutory work is carried out within the relevant Flag authorization, with findings reviewed before certification.

Traceability

Controlled records, certificate status and documented technical actions.

Survey findings, supporting documents and certification decisions are linked through the technical record. Use HCS verification services to check published certificate and personnel records, and contact Head Office for case-specific confirmation.

Responsiveness

Direct communication and practical support for time-critical maritime cases.

Provide the vessel name, IMO number, location and requested service when contacting HCS. Head Office routes the enquiry to the responsible team; urgent attendance requests can be raised through the Technical Desk.

Leadership Team

Technical leadership with international operational reach.

HCS leadership, quality and regional technical roles work together to maintain consistent standards, competence control and responsive support across assignments.

Strategy

Building a technically resilient, digital and responsive organisation.

HCS strategy focuses on controlled growth, technical competence, digital traceability and effective support for clients, authorities and maritime stakeholders.

AREA 01

Technical Governance

Strengthen consistency in survey, review, approval and certification decision-making.

Explore strategic priorities

Technical governance ensures that survey evidence, rule interpretation, independent review and approval authority remain clearly separated and documented. Findings and recommendations follow defined escalation, verification and closure procedures.

Review and approval

Survey findings are checked against applicable HCS Rules, vessel particulars and the authorised service scope before any certification decision.

AREA 02

People & Competence

Develop surveyor and technical capability through controlled authorization and continual learning.

Explore strategic priorities

Competence management combines qualification assessment, practical experience, supervised assignments and periodic performance evaluation. Responsibilities and authorisations are matched to survey type and technical complexity.

Competence assurance

Surveyors operate within documented competence and appointment limits, supported by technical instructions and continued professional development.

AREA 03

Regulatory Monitoring

Track Flag, IMO, PSC and technical developments relevant to HCS services.

Explore strategic priorities

A structured regulatory review process identifies applicable amendments, Flag circulars, port State control guidance and emerging technical requirements. Relevant changes are assessed for operational impact and communicated through controlled updates.

Regulatory intelligence

Applicable changes are incorporated into technical guidance, checklists and survey instructions after review.

AREA 04

Digital Systems

Expand verification, controlled records and efficient technical workflows.

Explore strategic priorities

Digital workflows support the recording of survey evidence, controlled document versions, certificate status checks and traceable follow-up. Access controls, review steps and record retention remain integral to each process.

Traceability & verification

Digital convenience complements — and does not replace — professional review, authenticated approvals or applicable statutory requirements.

AREA 05

Global Network

Build reliable regional capability while maintaining Head Office technical control.

Explore strategic priorities

A coordinated international network supports attendance planning and technical communication in major maritime regions. Each appointment depends on competence, availability, the agreed scope and any applicable written Flag authorisation.

Central technical oversight

Regional survey activity is subject to HCS instructions, evidence review, reporting and central technical oversight.

AREA 06

Client Response

Provide clear, direct and practical support for vessel and compliance needs.

Explore strategic priorities

Responsive case handling begins with a clear understanding of vessel particulars, location, urgency and the requested service. The technical team identifies documentation requirements, coordinates attendance where appropriate and provides traceable updates.

Practical case management

Urgent cases are triaged promptly, while technical decisions remain subject to evidence, rules and required authorisations.
